Hungry Hill plot
Ireland circa 1840. The poor Donovan family and the wealthy Brodrick family have been embroiled in a feud for over 50 years. The Donovans' father has raided the Brodricks' copper mine, destroying the mine and killing the eldest Broderick son. John, the youngest son, has been in charge of the family from that moment on. However, he is more interested in Fanny Rose, the local beauty, than in running the copper mine. John marries Fanny and they have four children. When John dies, Fanny and her youngest son Henry take over the copper mine. One day Fanny and Henry get into a fight. Henry has been ignoring his mother ever since, who then flees to London and survives by gambling. Henry convinces his mother to return. Having just returned to the mine, Fanny and Henry have a conflict with the Donovans over working conditions, in which Henry is killed.
