"Every war has its casualties."
Jack Calgrove is a former soldier who was a prisoner of war during the American Civil War. After returning home, Jack discovers that his wife has died. Because it was thought that the same had happened to him, Jack's children were put on a train with orphans. The train going west will traverse enemy lines. Along with another ex-soldier, a group of native snipers and a freed slave, Jack sets out to intercept the train before all hope is lost.
