Homespun Folks plot

Caleb Webster, a strict farmer who will not tolerate the presence of a "silly lawyer" in his household, throws his son Joel out of his home, whereupon Joel settles in Gatesville. There he meets Beulah Rogers, the daughter of newspaper editor Pliny Rogers. When Rogers forces Hilary Rose, the Republican candidate for district attorney, to withdraw from the race because of his shady past, Joel is prompted to run and wins the election.
