Hindle Wakes plot
Mary Hollins and her friend Jenny Hawthorne, from the British textile region, are spending their two-week summer holiday in the seaside town of Blackpool. By chance, they meet Alan Jeffcoate, the son of the owner of the factory where Jenny works. Alan and Jenny fall in love, and Alan proposes to Jenny to spend the second half of the vacation with him, while Mary acts as an alibi. Mary has a fatal accident on the water that kills her and it's revealed that Alan and Jenny were together. Great shame in the families, which are far apart because of the class difference. However, both parents believe that Alan should marry Jenny, but Jenny, independent as she is, firmly rejects such a solution.
