Het Geheim van Mariënburg plot

There is a curse on Mariënburg, the former sugar plantation not far from Paramaribo. When the Netherlands abolished slavery in 1863, there was a shortage of workers on the sugar plantation. That is why poor farmers from India and Java in particular were recruited to work on the sugar plantation. However, the working conditions were so lousy that a large group of workers revolted in 1902.
