Helmsman plot

"A boy who has uncertain hopes for his father’s return home does all he can to restore his family’s ship in time for his father’s upcoming birthday."

Hassan lives alone on an old ship in a dried-up lake in Iran. His father has left and his older brother wants to sell the boat, but Hassan protests. He wants to fix up the ship for his father's birthday. The arrival of Najib, an African boy who is just as stubborn as Hassan, stirs up a lot. Fierce words, fierce friendship. Najib thinks Hassan is crazy, but when it comes down to it, he stands up for him anyway.
