Rather mediocre film about a family situation in which a proper upbringing of the children is hampered by the fact that there is only one parent, who moreover does not take up his role properly.

A lot of scenes were shot with a handheld camera and don't follow the action very well, and there are plenty of stutters between successive scenes.

The biggest problem, however, is that the film, despite its delicate subject matter, never manages to touch the audience.

Mother is dead, father [Aaron Paul] is drowning in grief, teenage son Jacob [Josh Wiggins] is completely out of control, and as a result, child protective services place his younger brother [Deke Garnder] with Aunt Pam [Juliette Lewis]. Aside from good performances by Wiggins and Paul and a fine performance by Lewis, there's nothing particularly remarkable about this family drama. But the final fifteen minutes offer a surprising, shocking, yet realistic conclusion that lifts it above the average. Roberts and Sullivan are excellent as the two stern but patient officers with whom Jacob and his friends all too often encounter.

I have no idea if this is a good film in some respects. I only got through a few minutes.

I really can't stand this sickening camera work any longer.

Why is it that some filmmakers seem to think it's a good idea to film from far too close, and to do so by shaking the camera as hard and as much as possible?
