While on leave in Italy, Lieutenant Thomas "Tommy" Knowlton falls in love with Jean Standish. Not only is Jean newlywed, but she is also the daughter of the commander of his submarine. The friction between the two officers becomes unbearable once they are at sea. After Commander TJ Toler is forced to leave Tommy's best friend on the submarine's deck because of a dive to escape enemy planes, Tommy is no longer able to suppress his anger…
