Hearts Are Trumps plot

Lord Altcar has given his daughter Winifred's hand to Lord Burford, but she marries gamekeeper Michael Wain. When her father discovers this, he scolds the gamekeeper and then kicks him out. Years later, Winifred is the owner of Altcar Manor. She sent her daughter Dora to a strict boarding school in Switzerland. There she fell for the charms of the American artist John Gillespie. Michael Wain is now a wealthy man. When he finds out that Winifred is in over her head in debt, he makes plans to buy up her estate.
