This story is about the two African-American sisters Sadie and Bessie Delany, one lived to be 101 years old, the other 103. They grew up in North Carolina and experienced various social conflicts such as racism and sexuality. Sadie became one of the first black teachers in New York and Bessie the second black dentist.
