Hälfte des Lebens plot

In the year 1796, the poet Friedrich Hölderlin started working as a teacher for the wealthy Gontard family. The poet falls in love with Susette, the lady of the house for whose children he teaches. Susette Gontard is to some extent the Diotima of his novel 'Hyperion'. The relationship between the two cannot be hidden and Hölderlin is expelled from the house. Susette falls ill with love and eventually dies at the age of 33. Hölderlin discovers that he is severely depressed and ends up in a psychiatric hospital...
