"The bloodiest war in the History of Brazil"
In 1893, the movement of Antonio Conselheiro (a presumed monarchist) and his supporters in the Bahía hinterland is considered too great a threat to the newly proclaimed republic. It is decided to send several military detachments to destroy them. These soldiers are always repulsed by the supporters of Conselheiro. In 1897 it comes to a climax. These events are seen through the eyes of a family divided over Antonio Conselheiro.
