Glamour plot

Film about the lives of three generations of Hungarian Jews with a furniture store in Budapest. Imre is central, the eldest son of the founder of the business. Imre meets Gerda, a German teacher who has come to Budapest to teach. They marry, Imre converts to Christianity and has his son Kisfiu, the narrator of the story, baptized. We follow the family from the First World War, the 1930s, the arrival of the Nazis, the horrors of the Second World War, the coming to power of the Communists up to and including the Hungarian uprising in 1956.
