Gilberte de Courgenay plot
A company of soldiers from the German-speaking part of Switzerland moves to the town of Courgenay. There, many soldiers and officers fall for the charms of the attractive and helpful Gilberte (Anne-Marie Blanc). When word reaches them that their service is being extended and they have to spend Christmas in Courgenay, many soldiers are disappointed. Especially gunman Peter Hasler (Erwin Kohlund), who is in love with Tilly Odermatt (Ditta Oesch), the daughter of his godparents. He writes her many letters, but never gets an answer back. This is because Tilly's father Friedrich (Heinrich Gretler) withholds the letters to cover up the unethical relationship. Gilberte tries to comfort Peter, which leads to a love affair between the two. When Tilly discovers that her father is withholding Peter's letters, she decides to travel to Courgenay. There she discovers the relationship between Peter and Gilberte.
