Foreigner's God plot

1947, Enugu. Documentary filmmaker Pepper Claude travels to colonial Nigeria in search of a cultural artifact of the Umuchu people. Together with Ikenga, his research assistant, he sets out to find the mask of Anyanwu. When they arrive at their destination, they encounter a culture that labels certain women as witches and imposes gruesome punishments on them without a fair trial. Pepper cannot stomach the injustice and decides, against Ikenga's advice, to stand up for the women.
