Forbidden Hours plot

"A Drama of Human Hearts under Ermine Robes."

Prince Michael IV of the Principality of Balanca falls in love with Marie de Floriet, the Prime Minister's cousin. He wants to abdicate the throne in order to marry her. His family would rather have him marry Princess Ena. His cousin therefore devises a plan with the Prime Minister to curb the prince's passion by putting Marie in a compromising position. She agrees to the plan, because she is convinced that the future of Balanca is more important than love.
