Doctor Edward Meade and his friend Richard Burton are both in love with Sylvia Norcross. They both enlist in the military, but Edward ends up staying behind to care for deformed children. Sylvia thinks he's cowardly and she marries Richard. When Richard is presumed dead, Sylvia is about to remarry Edward. Then the mutilated Richard returns home.
