"It began with one man."
A virus without a cure. A threat without borders. A nation without a chance to escape the H5N1 (bird flu) virus. When a mutation of the virus is discovered in a local market, China is forced to hire Dr. Iris Varnack (Joely Richardson) of the Epidemic Intelligence Service in. When she arrives, she discovers that she is already running late, because an American businessman is already infected with the virus. As the flu quickly spreads from person to person, the Department of Health led by Collin Reed (Stacy Keach) starts a race against time to prevent chaos.
