Der Rote Baron plot
"Heroes rise. Empires fall. Legends endure."
We see how Baron Manfred von Richthofen (Matthias Schweighöfer) experiences the war. In the beginning of his career as a young naive pilot, who sees the war as a challenge with sporting opponents who try to beat each other without rancor. Then how he rises in rank until he is put in charge of the German Air Force. Meanwhile, he develops an ever closer bond with nurse Käte Otersdorf (Lena Headey), who shows Von Richthofen the dark side of war.

Reasonable film about the most famous fighter pilot, nicknamed the red baron, at the time of the first world war. The entire decoration of the film is well taken care of and the air battles also look impressive. However, the story doesn't really grab your attention, especially because it all remains a bit superficial. A narrow 3.0 stars.

What an annoying movie. Personally, I think this is a meaningless, hollow biography of Von Richthofen. Richthofen is the best, has all the qualities and everyone looks up to him... and the film doesn't really tell much more. Not that everything that is said is not true, but the heroism of the war is emphasized much more strongly than the drama. The rawness of the war is completely forgotten and the creators use colors that would better suit Alice in Wonderland.
Hollywood war film in other words, with soldiers who are so good friends with each other that you can almost see them walking hand in hand. Not to mention the apathetic romance between the baron and the nurse and an embarrassing family sketch, in which the parents are given just a few lines of dialogue. Only a few digital dogfight scenes make you forget the magnitude of the fiasco...
