Fame Is the Spur plot
Hamer Radshaw manages to work his way up from the slums of Manchester to a post in the British Cabinet. But gradually he renounces his originally socialist ideals, since in practice he surrounds himself with people of high social status and lifestyle. When his friends and his wife, a champion of women's rights, are even imprisoned, Hamer has to reconsider his position.
