Fågelfångarens Son plot
Life is poor and hard in the late 19th century in the Faroe Islands. Birdcatcher Esmar and his wife Johanna struggle to survive. Lacking a male heir, they are on the brink of losing their land. When their third daughter is born, Johanna is desperate for advice from her friend Livia. He suggests that it is Esmar and that another man might be able to solve her problem. The couple choose Livia's lover, the French Captain, to secretly impregnate Johanna again and, yes, she has a son. The family keeps their land and the boy grows up as the birdcatcher's son. Everything seems perfect, until ten years later the French Captain returns...
