Evil in Clear River plot

In addition to being a high school teacher, Peter Suvak is mayor and thus a prominent citizen of the Canadian town of Clear River. However, his popularity is put to the test when the mother of one of his students, Kate McKinnon, discovers that he is talking racist ideas to his students. Completely shocked by Suvak's interpretation of history and contemporary society, she embarks on a campaign that leads to Suvak's dismissal. However, Suvak is still mayor and retains considerable power as a result. He almost manages to get Kate out of town, until the Canadian government intervenes and takes Suvak to court.
