Erzherzog Johanns Große Liebe plot

Archduke Johann of Austria (1782 - 1859), close to the people, supported the 1805 uprising of the Tyrolean Andreas Hofer against the Napoleonic occupation. After this revolt was crushed at the Battle of Austerlitz and Tyrol was suppressed, Johann was exiled. It was not until the year 1950 that the Archduke was welcomed again posthumously. This was not solely due to his descent from the House of Habsburg. He also took a prominent place in the collective memory for his ambitions to implement social reforms in the region.
