Set in Budapest in 1968, the film traces the rise and fall of an ambitious aspiring writer from the province. The intrigues within (artistic) intellectual circles, political maneuvering, a fateful love affair and the protagonist's naivety contribute to the fact that the protagonist eventually loses his footing.
