Elle plot

Elle is about a married couple with marital problems. The husband is in love, the wife is not ill-loved and yet they are not happy. At least not in the usual sense of the word. The man is in fact too much in love not to become at least a little paranoid, and the wife, is too moved by his love not to be a little shocked. He sees in her an image of the Venus de Milo, cherishes her as a work of art and tries to perfect her, with all the compulsions that entails. Thus, both go about their marriage in a two-sided process of self-destruction. On the way from one misunderstanding to the next mistake, each is thrown back into his own loneliness.
