"Can Darkness Win Light?"
Crete was occupied by the Venetians around 1566. The painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, better known as El Greco, leaves for Spain, where he befriends Niño de Guevara, a powerful soldier who is quickly making a career. El Greco and the artists around him increasingly criticize the incumbent rulers, the royal family and the Church. This culminates in a conflict between El Greco and his old friend De Guevara, who has since become the Grand Inquisitor.
