Eisenstein plot
Biographical film by Renny Bartlett about the life and works of film director Sergei Eisenstein (played by Simon McBurney). Around 1921, the intellectual and engineer Eisenstein met his teacher, the brilliant and innovative theater director Vsevolod Meyerhold (Jonathan Hyde). The studious Eisenstein quickly surpasses his master, and then (with or without assistant director Grigori Aleksandrov and cameraman Eduard Tisse) makes classic films such as 'Stachka', 'Bronenosets Potyomkin', 'Oktyabr', 'Aleksandr Nevskiy' and 'Ivan Groznyy. 1 & 2. This dramatized biography sheds light on Eisenstein's private life, interspersed with images of his masterpieces. Also, Kuleshov's famous “Mozhukhin experiment”, which established the power of montage for which Eisenstein has become famous, is also being partially reconstructed.
