After studying in Britain, Daisy Forbes returns to her native China. There she discovers that her father has died and that the nurse who raised her is her mother. Daisy is in love with George Tevis, the nephew of the British consul. However, at the insistence of his uncle, George leaves her behind for a career in diplomacy.
