The successful doctor Monica Brayden, who cannot have children, is unaware that her husband and journalist John Brayden is having a love affair with Mary Hathaway, one of her friends. John goes on a long vacation to Europe when he learns that Mary is pregnant. Just before the baby is born, Monica finds out who the father is. John has cut all ties with Mary, but Monica hasn't told him about Mary's pregnancy yet. Distraught Monica plans to leave her husband, but Mary advises against it.
