Downstairs plot
"HE WAS A BACHELOR ON A PERPETUAL HONEYMOON!"
At Albert and Anna's wedding, Karl, the new driver, arrives. Albert is the Baron's head butler. Karl soon seems to be redundant as a servant and Albert tells him this. But Karl isn't too happy about it and won't leave it at that. When he gets the chance, he will try to seduce Anna. He is no doubt lying when it is to his advantage and charms Sophie, the old cook, to get some money. In this way he disrupts the household and then blackmails the Baroness so as not to be fired.
