Diep plot

'Deep' is set at the end of the seventies and tells the story of 14-year-old Heleen, who makes the transition from childhood to adulthood with pain and difficulty. While her parents are going through a divorce, she finds herself in the insecure and vulnerable area of love, sexuality and friendship. This is accompanied by conflicting and confusing feelings, causing her to plunge into the deep end like a kamikaze pilot.

Disappointing and even a bit sad how little subtle the theme is presented, especially of a film that takes the title Deep on its own. Basically every scene is about sex in one way or another. Logically, the film also ends when the sex has finally taken place; done. Many dialogues feel forced, also cliché. It is a pity that the genre designation 'elephant in china shop' does not exist, as a drama Diep clearly falls short. The cinematography is good, especially the framing and lighting. It's just a shame that it was so static, that doesn't do the film, which already has so little dynamics, any good. Nevertheless, I saw some nice shots. This makes it good enough for 2 stars.

In terms of story and acting by Melody Klaver, the film deserves a more than satisfactory: 3½ *. The forced manipulation with image sizes, however, quickly becomes irritating, because you are constantly looking at half images (or even less), so that the other actors and the environment hardly come into the picture. As a result, the camera quickly gains the upper hand over the story and I can't imagine that was the intention of the filmmakers. In any case, it doesn't do the story any good. And therefore a full * deducted.

Second time seeing this movie over the first time. But I still can't really get excited about it. In the beginning, the film still deals with the divorce and all. But gradually he starts to puke, while it should only get more exciting.
