"The rich get richer... and sometimes the poor get richer too."

When a farmer is found murdered in a small farming village in Austria at the beginning of the last century, his serfs are freed from his tyrannical rule. Since the man had no children, the seven serfs inherit the farm together. This naturally leads to many mutual conflicts.

After 16 years, another message about this film

The world in miniature, abuse of power and self-enrichment can be found at all times and at all levels, cultures and continents, including in an Austrian farming village around 1900.

I think it is rather caricatural and brutally executed, something that probably fits in with the harshness of that period.
Despite their hard work, the great injustice threatens to prevent them from celebrating victory but the group of rebels pays (literally) a high price for freedom.

Of all times, it reminded me of the recent (2024) assassination of the CEO of an American health insurance company by an “insurgent”.
