Die Hebamme - Auf Leben und Tod plot

A Tyrolean mountain village in 1813. Since her husband's death, midwife Rosa Koebel lives under simple circumstances with her younger sister Anna. The women enjoy an excellent reputation. However, when Anna becomes pregnant out of wedlock, the women flee to the city and Rosa goes to work in Jakob Aigner's new clinic. There she found that pregnant women more often get puerperal fever and that they are also used by doctors for medical experiments. Rosa is torn between traditional obstetrics and the interests of modern, male-dominated obstetrics.
