Die Barrings plot

Against his father's will, the wealthy East Prussian landlord Fried von Barring marries the flamboyant and unscrupulous Gerda van Eyff. He soon realizes that it was not a love marriage, but pure calculation of his greedy wife. When Gerda sells the family property after the death of Fried's father in order to brag about her lavish lifestyle in higher circles, the Barring's are on the brink of ruin.
