Des Teufels Advokat plot

"Was he a saint or was he a sinner?"

Monsignor Meredith is told that he is suffering from terminal cancer and has only six months to live. He receives one last major task from the Vatican: investigating the canonization of Giacomo Nerone, a deserter who was shot by the rebels in 1944. It is said that before his execution, Giacomo saved an entire village from the German devastation, which is considered a miracle for many. Meredith's quest takes him to the poorest regions of Italy. With his research he wants to portray the life of the man in detail.
