Der Weg ins Freie plot

Italian singer Antonia owes her success to Count Oginski. But when she meets Detlef von Bossin, a Prussian officer and landowner, she marries him, but she will not give up her career for anything or anyone. Now her husband presents her with this choice. When he discovers that she has already signed a new contract for Vienna, he returns to his estate alone and disillusioned. Due to Oginski, however, Antonia is involved in a very dangerous case, as a result of which she pretends to have committed suicide and flees to Flanders. When von Bossin learns of her (alleged) death, he marries again. Oginski, who has come to the right track of Antonia, tells her husband the truth and tries to blackmail him with it...
