Der Letzte Mentsch plot
The young woman Gül spontaneously offers the old man Marcus her help when he needs someone to take him by car to his hometown Satu Mare in Hungary. There he hopes to find proof of his Jewish identity because he wants to be buried in a Jewish cemetery. The latter was refused to him because he has long since left his Jewish descent together with the evidence of his 'Jewishness'. He is, the only one of his family, a survivor of the Theresienstadt concentration camp. After the liberation he did not return to his old life and left this behind him along with his Jewish name, Mena-Hem Teitelbaum and moved to Cologne. In the autumn of his life, however, a desire comes over him to regain his old identity.
