Der Katzensteg plot

East Prussia, at the time of the liberation wars against Napoleon's army. Baron Schranden, a supporter of Napoleon, with the help of his maidservant Regine, smuggles French soldiers through a back gate of his castle and large parts of the Prussian army are caught in a deadly ambush. But the betrayal is not without consequences. Years later, when the brave young Lieutenant Baumgart returns to his East Prussian town, he is informed that the small community wants to prevent the burial of their former landlord. Then the lieutenant tells the truth: in reality he is Boleslav von Schranden, the son of the traitorous baron. He sees it as his sacred duty to properly bury his father, with whose political affiliations he completely disagreed. Even against the will of the entire community of Schranden.
