De Swarte Krie van de Deelen plot

Ten-year-old Dieke's grandmother has died. She goes to Friesland with her parents for the funeral and to assist her grandfather. Her grandfather, mother and aunt Yfke speak Frisian to each other, which Dieke does not understand. As a result, she does not hear any of the conversations about the funeral. Dieke doesn't seem to realize that her grandmother is no longer there. She avoids conversations about death and flees into her fantasy.
