Das Fräulein von Scuderi plot
Paris during the reign of Louis XIV, the Sun King. Cardillac, a goldsmith, is rightly regarded as the best master of his craft. His jewelry is first-class works of art and so he has great difficulty saying goodbye to them, especially since he knows that one precious piece is just the price the 'beautiful rich' at the Royal Court pay for a night of love with an aristocratic lady. When the goldsmith fails to make a customer refrain from purchasing a piece of jewelry, he follows him on his way through the dark night... Cardillac has become a ruthless killer.
