The film tells the story of director Eddie Israel (Harvey Keitel). He threatens to completely lose sight of the boundaries between fiction and reality when making his film 'Mother of Mirrors', about the lives of Claire (Madonna) and Russel (James Russo). They indulge in sex and drugs. Their conflicts and relationships extend into the seemingly normal, everyday life in which Eddie goes further than the director is supposed to go. When the director and actors realize that there is no going back, they have to make drastic choices.
