Banker Dimitri Gurov is on holiday in Yalta and meets a lady who is walking by with her dog. Her name is Anna Sergeyovna and she is trapped in an unhappy marriage. However, both their partners are not present and the two begin an affair. After the holidays, both go their separate ways and leave for home, where they then live happily together for months.
