Under pressure from her parents, the beautiful and dignified Lise has married Bernard, an unbalanced, jealous and brutal man. One night her husband is found murdered. The police start an investigation and a trial follows in which Lise is accused of the murder. Maître Martigny, her friend, stubbornly defends her and manages to portray her husband's death as an accident.
