Clara, une Passion Française plot

Paris, late 19th century. Joseph Schreiber, a German trade representative, and his wife Clara fled Prussia to settle in the French capital. Business is going well for the young couple and their three sons, but Joseph is looking for "the" project that will finally ensure that his family gains a foothold in the French high society. While contemplating a project for a trade magazine, he dies in 1912. After his death, his idea is successfully adopted by two of his sons, Robert and Emile.
