Chroniques de Mon Village plot

In this village chronicle, Karim Traïdia returns to his own childhood in the Algerian countryside during the war of independence. Nine-year-old Bachir has a clearly defined ambition: to become the son of a martyr. His father left the family years earlier for a secluded life in the mountains, and Bachir has heard that children of martyrs have a golden future. In his experience, his dream for the future does not detract from the loyalty he feels for his father – any more than his friendship with a French soldier says anything about his patriotism. Bachir's fantasy and curiosity draw his childish innocence, but they are not without consequences in wartime.
