César plot

Honoré Panisse is on his deathbed with his friends, wife and son by his side. He confesses to the priest who is present, but can't bring himself to tell his son that Marius is his real father. When he does hear this news, his son goes to Toulon, where Marius works, and pretends to be a journalist.
