Carl & Bertha plot

The young Bertha (Woll) falls madly in love with engineer Carl Benz (Duken), who with visionary ideas about a horseless cart is met with much skepticism. After years, in 1885 he succeeded in coupling a combustion engine to a railcar, but nobody wanted to put that experiment into production. Woll embarked on the first long-distance car ride from Mannheim to Pforzheim in 1888 to convince investors. The Benz name still lives on in the current Mercedes-Benz car brand.
