Capitaines des Ténèbres plot

For years, France and England have tumbled over each other on the African continent to hijack as much land as possible. In 1898, France set out to create Lake Chad to connect previously conquered territories. Entrez captains Paul Voulet and Julien Chanoine. They have neat mustaches and smart uniforms, that's not the problem. For their own glory, together with some other soldiers, they start a series of looting and killing that goes too far even for the French government.
