Candles in the Dark plot

Sylvia (Milano) is a young adult from the United States. Because of her spoiled and materialistic attitude, she is sent to her aunt in old-fashioned and traditional Estonia. For Sylvia, the culture shock is great: most people do not have a telephone or light. They are not allowed to celebrate Christmas there and even the church is banned. Many residents are protesting against this. When Sylvia falls in love with one of the insurgents, she too does her part.
