Café de la Plage plot
Tangier, Morocco. Driss, an attractive young Moroccan, leads an independent life. He lives in his old car and does odd jobs every now and then to survive; drive around and sell fish or second-hand items. In his spare time he can usually be found on the beach with his girlfriend Betsoul. On one of his rounds, Driss ends up at a run-down cafe on a quiet and beautifully deserted beach. He becomes intrigued by the cafe's owner, Fouad, a secretive middle-aged man with a soft spot for women. Driss tries to befriend the aloof Fouad by offering him small gifts. Driss' friends warn him not to waste time on Fouad, but the young Moroccan is determined to fight for the friendship. Fouad thinks Driss is being too obliging and questions his manhood. Meanwhile, Betsoul encourages Driss to sleep with other women. Driss soon becomes entangled in complex contradictions.
